About Stack Happens
Funny Mats for Salty Games
Stack Happens started with two things:
My love for Commander… and my frustration with boring playmats.
I'm a Commander player myself, and one of my favourite things about the game has always been everything that happens around the table.
The terrible deals. The missed triggers. The player who's "definitely not the threat." The blue player with seven cards in hand and two untapped Islands telling everyone not to worry. The ridiculous board states, questionable decisions and the salt that inevitably follows.
For me, that's what makes Commander so much fun.
But when I went looking for a playmat that matched that side of the game, most of what I found just wasn't for me.
There were plenty of beautiful fantasy landscapes and serious artwork, but I wanted something that could sit on the table and immediately get a laugh from the other players.
So I decided to make my own.
From My Garage to Your Gaming Table
Stack Happens isn't some massive gaming company.
It's quite literally being built out of my garage.
What started as an idea for a few funny playmats has slowly turned into something much bigger.
I've spent countless hours coming up with ideas, working on designs, building the website, researching products and trying to create a brand that feels like it actually belongs at a Commander table.
Stack Happens is still a small Australian business, and I'm building it from the ground up.
There's no giant design department or corporate office behind the scenes. Just little old me and my computer a head full of jokes and now the ability to generate funny images.
Just a Commander player in his garage trying to make gaming mats he'd actually want to bring to game night.
Mats With Some Personality
The goal behind Stack Happens is pretty simple:
Make gaming mats that are actually fun.
I want someone to pull one of these mats out at their local game store and immediately have another player laugh because they've experienced exactly what the design is making fun of.
Whether it's someone refusing to pay the one, a control player countering everything, someone missing another trigger or the green player insisting they're "just ramping" while building an absolutely terrifying board…
If you've played enough Commander, you've probably met them.
You might even be them.
More Than Just Playmats
I'm also building a cast of original Stack Happens characters inspired by the different personalities you find around a Commander table.
There's the smug Blue Wizard, the chaotic Goblin, the graveyard-loving Necromancer, the rules-obsessed Paladin and, of course, the Druid who's definitely just ramping.
These characters will continue appearing across new designs as the Stack Happens universe grows.
The idea is to build something recognisable — where you don't just own one funny mat, but start recognising the characters, jokes and running gags across the whole range.
Thanks for Supporting Stack Happens
When you buy something from Stack Happens, you're supporting a small Australian business that's being built from scratch.
And that genuinely means a lot to me.
Every order helps me keep experimenting, creating new designs and turning ridiculous Commander moments into products that hopefully make game night a little more entertaining.
I'm excited to see where Stack Happens goes from here — and even more excited to see these mats out in the wild on actual gaming tables.
So thank you for being part of it.
Shuffle up, make some questionable decisions, blame someone else for being the threat, and remember… Stack Happens!
